As of this writing, the last commit to hatch was 5 months ago: pypa/hatch@4ebce0e

This quiet period is uncharacteristic for the project:

If hatch starts falling behind in features (for example, it does not support dependency groups), we might need to consider alternatives like uv for managing the dev environment.

If xarray ends up going with pixi (xref pydata/xarray#10732), it might be a good option for Zarr too since a lot of the same developers contribute to both libraries.
