Pasting text into Everything Toolbar shows the results of previous searched terms

Steps to reproduce

1. Perform a search
2. Perform another search by pasting text into the deskband

Expected Behavior

Results should show files/folders related to the pasted text

Actual Behavior

results show the results from the previous search
To "correct" this, I backspace/delete one character - this then shows results related to the pasted text

Additional Information

This behaviour happens around 90% of the time. Occasionally, the results align with the pasted text.

Hi @Grooves1210, thank you for the bug report! Unfortunately I am unable to reproduce the problem here. I tried these steps after copying some text to clipboard (e.g. "bla"):

1. Type "test"
2. Hit Ctrl+A
3. Hit Ctrl+V
4. Pastes "bla" and updates search results

I tried the same with search history enabled and also tried pasting while the opening animation is still running, just in case. Works every time. 😅

Looking at the code I'm not sure where it might go wrong. Are there any more tips that could help reproduce it?

Hi again, here's some more information
I uninstalled Everything Toolbar 2.1.0 several days ago. Today I updated Everything to 1.5.0.1400a (released Oct 9) and then installed Toolbar 2.1.0 again. The problem still happens.

I search for Perturbator, I get the last two searches I made jammed together (Neon trees and something else). I search for Carpenter, I get Carpenter brut as expected. I search Perturbator again, I get Carpenter Brut stuff again. I search for Neon Trees, I get Perturbator.

Is there any kind of further troubleshooting that could be done, like purging a cache or resetting something, submitting logs, etc.?

Sorry for delay and shortness of this response (life getting in the way):

@srwi your example (typing "test" and then pasting "bla") also worked fine for me

I wander if the problem triggers when pasting longer names into the search box.

I will experiment soon to find out if I can find a pattern, or at least show some more examples of when it does and doesn't happen

I checked and I don't get the problem when pasting into the Everything.exe window

Question:
When I experiment should I reboot the computer to start from a fresh state, or is killing some processes enough?

'Search while typing' works around the issue but comes with the downside of being laggy because it's dynamically updating results

After I toggled search while typing off again, it started behaving almost like how I'd expect. It shows the previous results for a few frames, then changes to the correct results. I haven't yet figured out any other workarounds or settings that influence the bug.

yes i've also faced this exact issue for a while, trick i guess for nkw it to bring up search windows a third time or atmleast retype the search term for the third time first don't remmeber which

Could somebody affected by the bug please take a screen recording of it happening? I feel like I might be missing a step to reproduce it. Also, please include the contents of your %AppData%\EverythingToolbar\settings.ini. Still can't come up with a reason for this.

Is there anybody using Windows 11 with this problem?
