Reather is a Rust-based command-line application that provides:
- Robust airport search (with wildcard support)
- Weather and forecast for addresses and airports
- Real estate and external links for locations
- USGS Earthquake data with filtering by magnitude and time
- NOAA Tides predictions for any address or airport station
- User-friendly address management (auto-geocoding, normalization)
- Enter a new street address (auto-geocoded and normalized)
- Choose from stored addresses
- Airport search (wildcard, US/passenger filters)
- Earthquakes (USGS, filter by magnitude and time)
- Tides (NOAA, lookup by address or airport)
- Exit
- Search by code, state, municipality, or name
- Wildcard support:
Rome*,*Rome,*Rome*,Rome - Filter for US states and/or passenger airports
- Displays airport, weather, forecast, and external links
addresses.txtstores addresses with lat/lon- Addresses without lat/lon are geocoded and normalized at startup
- Normalization: stored as uppercase, matched address if lat/lon match
addresses.txtis ignored by git (user data is safe)
- Menu for minimum magnitude: All, 5.0+, 6.0+, 7.0+
- Menu for time period: 24 hours, 48 hours, 7 days
- Results filtered by magnitude and time
- Each earthquake shows:
- Magnitude, location, time
- Coordinates, depth
- Google Maps link
- USGS event link
- Lookup tides by address or airport (US only)
- Finds nearest NOAA tide station (by state, with fallback to all stations)
- Displays:
- Station name, ID, state, coordinates
- Google Maps links for both station and reference location
- Tide predictions for today and tomorrow (local station time, 12-hour am/pm format)
- Handles addresses without lat/lon (auto-geocoded)
- Robust fallback and error messages if no station found
- Build and run:
cargo build cargo run
- Follow the interactive menu prompts.
--- Tides ---
1. Lookup tides by address
2. Lookup tides by airport (US only)
3. Return to main menu
- Select an address or airport, and the app will display the nearest tide station and predictions.
--- Earthquakes ---
1. All magnitudes
2. 5.0+
3. 6.0+
4. 7.0+
- Then select time period (24h, 48h, 7d) and view filtered results with Google Maps links.
data/addresses.txt: User addresses (auto-managed, not tracked by git)data/airports.csv: Airport database (auto-managed)
- User data in
addresses.txtis never overwritten by git operations. - Earthquake data is fetched from USGS GeoJSON feeds.
- Tide station and prediction data is fetched from NOAA CO-OPS.
- For best results, ensure you have an internet connection.
