Snyk has created this PR to fix 1 vulnerabilities in the yarn dependencies of this project.

Snyk changed the following file(s):

  • package.json
  • yarn.lock

Note for zero-installs users

If you are using the Yarn feature zero-installs that was introduced in Yarn V2, note that this PR does not update the .yarn/cache/ directory meaning this code cannot be pulled and immediately developed on as one would expect for a zero-install project - you will need to run yarn to update the contents of the ./yarn/cache directory.
If you are not using zero-install you can ignore this as your flow should likely be unchanged.

Vulnerabilities that will be fixed with an upgrade:

medium severity Improper Handling of Unexpected Data Type

Summary of Changes

Hello @saurabharch, I'm Gemini Code Assist1! I'm currently reviewing this pull request and will post my feedback shortly. In the meantime, here's a summary to help you and other reviewers quickly get up to speed!

This pull request, automatically generated by Snyk, aims to improve the project's security by upgrading the morgan logging middleware. The update resolves a specific vulnerability found in one of its transitive dependencies and ensures that the entire dependency tree is brought up to date, enhancing overall project stability and security.

Highlights

  • Security Vulnerability Fix: This PR addresses a medium-severity vulnerability (SNYK-JS-ONHEADERS-10773729) in the on-headers package, which is a transitive dependency of morgan, by upgrading morgan and its dependency tree.
  • Dependency Version Upgrade: The morgan package has been upgraded from version 1.9.0 to 1.10.1 in package.json, triggering corresponding updates in yarn.lock for morgan and its sub-dependencies (basic-auth, depd, on-headers, safe-buffer).

Code Review

This pull request correctly upgrades the morgan package to version 1.10.1 to resolve a known security vulnerability. The changes in package.json and yarn.lock are appropriate.

My review includes a comment on the package.json change, highlighting that a transitive dependency of morgan remains vulnerable. I've suggested a mitigation strategy that will improve the overall security posture of the application. This PR is a good first step, but a more comprehensive dependency audit appears to be necessary.

While this upgrade to [email protected] is a good step, it's important to note that this version of morgan still depends on [email protected]. This version of debug has a known Regular Expression Denial of Service (ReDoS) vulnerability.

Since other dependencies in this project also rely on vulnerable versions of debug, I recommend forcing an update for debug across the entire project using yarn's resolutions feature.

You can add the following to your package.json:

"resolutions": {
"debug": "4.3.4"
}

After adding this, run yarn install to apply the change to yarn.lock. This should probably be handled in a follow-up PR, but it's an important security measure to consider, especially since many other dependencies in this project are significantly outdated and may have other vulnerabilities.
