From a quick read, it looks good. I don't have the mental energy right now to give it deep thought, but I trust the process of starting with this description and gaining insight during implementation, as you mentioned. This will be a good improvement to the API. I was kind of thinking about rust's serde_json while reading it. |

If you are ok with this I'll check that this is not causing problems for pikepdf before posting on the wiki.
