thanks to be interested to penguins-eggs, here I just see the home of /home/eggs on a unknown system, this is too little to try to understand and answer. In particular, important information includes the version of your operating system and the commands used.

Usually, on every supported system that you need to do to create an ISO, is just:

• git clone https://github.com/pieroproietti/get-eggs/
• cd get-eggs
• sudo ./get-eggs
• eggs love

Note: eggs love is the shortest way to get an ISO and is equivalent to give this sequence of commands:

• sudo eggs kill
• sudo eggs dad --default
• sudo eggs tools clean
• sudo eggs produce

Followed your advice, this time iso produced, however when I try to make a bootable iso with Etcher I get the error "missing partion table". I am trying Penguin Eggs on two different Debian based installs, both give me the "missing partion table" error. I proceeded anyways and there are files on the USB stick but it won't boot, does not show up in boot menu.

Usually penguins-eggs create the ISO file as hybrid image and the follow is not necessary.

Now I don't know why in your case not - I will investigate later - but asking to google gemini, I found this workaround, I think can help you to solve the problem and have your first live system.

Solution

The easiest fix is to convert your existing ISO file into a hybrid image using a tool called isohybrid. This will add the necessary partition table without recreating the whole ISO.

Install the tool: isohybrid is part of the syslinux-utils package on Debian-based systems. Open a terminal and install it:

sudo apt update
sudo apt install syslinux-utils

Convert your ISO: Navigate to the directory where your ISO file is saved. Run the isohybrid command on your file. Note: This command modifies the original file, so you might want to work on a copy.

isohybrid your-penguin-eggs-image.iso

Replace your-penguin-eggs-image.iso with the actual name of your file. The process is instant.

Flash with Etcher: Now, open Etcher and try writing the modified ISO file to your USB stick. The "missing partition table" error should be gone, and the resulting USB drive will be bootable.

That worked on one computer, however I had to install a few times before it would boot the drive that it had been written to. However, on that computer pretty much everything is working fine - there were a few oddities as I was first using it but seems solid now. This is a Dell 7040 USFF with an Intel i5 5600 proc, the install is Linux Peppermint, most recent 6.1 kernel

On the second computer, (Dell Lat 5411, i5-10400H proc, LMLDE6 install, latest 6,12 kernel) I still get the "missing partion table error" even after I tried the isohybrid method. After yesterdays Penguin Eggs update I cleared the previous attempt (following your instructions) and attempted a new iso. Again, missing partion table error, even after trying the isohybrid method. The terminal reports that the isohybrid was a success but won't work in Etcher.

Here is the ending output of the terminal after my last attempts to create iso. I can post the entire terminal output if you want to see the entire attempt Please let me know if there is any other info I can provide

Thanks! BTW, the Dell 7040 solution was huge for me. It is my shop computer and I could not get the install transferred over from a really old computer and was having trouble getting work done. Very glad it's functioning now :)

After recent updates, I tried to build the iso for my desktop again and received the same 'missing partition table' error when I ran Etcher. I then tried the isohybrid method and still get 'missing partition table'.

I received this message at the end of trying to build the iso:

Size of boot image is 32768 sectors -> genisoimage: Error - boot image '/home/eggs/.mnt/iso/boot/grub/efi.img' has not an allowable size.

Is it possibly an issue because I am using the 6.12 kernel? Are there dependencies that may be missing on my install of LMDE6?
