UI crashes on start on Mac

I'm trying to run Phoebe, but I keep running into the error of

Error: Job failed with error: ValueError: Could not compute ldint with ldatm='ck2004'. Try changing atm to a table that covers a sufficient range of values. If necessary, set atm to 'blackbody' and/or ld_mode to 'manual' (in which case coefficients will need to be explicitly provided via ld_coeffs). Enable 'warning' logger to see out-of-bound arrays.

The command line version was a headache to parse (the above issue was present even when we tried running tutorials, though, that was back in November, I think), but since I've found that gui version exists, we decided to give it a try.
Trying to run Darwin version on a Mac (OS X 10.15.7) refuses to launch it. It just says that it has quit unexpectedly (attaching the log).
Trying to open the linux version (on the same machine) just says "cannot execute binary file"

I can initialize it in the web version. Going back to the atmospheres issue - it doesn't let me modify ld_coeffs. They revert back to 0.5 no matter what I do.

I'm not sure how long compute is supposed to take, but it's been quite a long time, and it doesn't seem to be doing anything.

Sorry you're running in to issues, hopefully we can help get you sorted out! I am going to suggest splitting this into two separate threads though, just to keep things straight. So here we can (hopefully) track down issues with installing the UI on your system, and then, if you don't mind, I'd suggest re-posting the atmospheres question over to the phoebe2 discussion board (as the general concept applies regardless of using python or the UI).

As for the UI - can you explain what you tried to do to install and get it running? On Linux did you use the tar.gz, deb, or rpm version? Are you on a 32 or 64-bit machine?

Everything is 64 bit. I've downloaded phoebe-darwin-x64.tar.gz file. It has 4 files inside, phoebe.app, 2 licenses, and a version file. I try to double-click on phoebe, and it immediately crashes. Ditto if I were to navigate inside the package contents, and try to start the executable file there. If there are any install steps, I can't really find them.

With the linux version, I was still trying to run it on Catalina, on the off chance it would compile since it's also a unix environment. I tried phoebe-linux-x64.tar.gz

ok, I don't have a mac machine to test on so I'll tag the devels with some mac experience. @bpablo @Raindogjones @gecheline - any ideas/suggestions?

@mkounkel - in the meantime using the web version of the UI, I tried to reproduce your problem with ld_coeffs, but they change fine for me. Try the following in the web UI:

• default_binary
• click the "+" on dataset in the left column
• (leaving kind at lc) click "add_dataset"
• scroll down to the "context:dataset" section, find ld_mode, and change one of the from "interp" to "manual"
• a new parameter should appear called ld_coeffs (and another called ld_func). Change ld_coeffs from "0.5,0.5" to "0.4,0.6" and click the check mark to accept the changes.

Is it still reverting for you? If not, what is different that you tried that was causing it to revert? Clicking on another parameter without clicking the checkmark is the only way I could get it to revert - if that was the case for you, I can try to catch that situation and raise a dialog window asking whether to accept or reject changes.

Ah - ld_mode was messing me up before. Now it's changing, thanks!

ok, great! ld_coeffs are hidden for the other modes (interp and lookup) because they don't have any effect in those cases.

At least for now you can use the web UI (and if you want to connect to a local instance of phoebe instead of the limited version on the website, you can launch phoebe-server --port 5000 in a terminal and then when first opening the web UI click on "server.phoebe-project.org" in the lower-left, click "+", and then enter "localhost:5000" - or you can just go directly to http://ui.phoebe-project.org/localhost:5000)

Hopefully someone else can jump in with help for installing the integrated desktop app on Mac, so we can leave the issue open for that.

Launching from the command line as suggested on other github threads with other flags:
--enable-logging, --no-sandbox, --disable-gpu result in the same error: Trace/BPT trap: 5

Launching as root also makes no difference.
