I use this to create an manage a native 9front vm on gcp.
The `./dev` script hardcodes some of my own gcp project config (project, zone, etc)
but could still be useful to you.
Simple: prepare the disk image in qemu, upload to a gcp disk image.
Steps
- qemu-img create -f raw disk.raw 10G
- Optionally use ./dev to start the vm: ./dev vm (9front-iso|test)
- Start qemu with 9front.iso and blank disk.raw
- Install 9front on disk
- Reboot qemu to test
- Before upload to gcp, add to plan9.ini:
vgasize=text
console=0
nousbrc=
- Shutdown qemu
- Upload image: ./dev upload NAME
- Start vm and connect to console: ./dev start NAME
Problems
- If using cwfs and the vm boots on the wrong disk (sd01 vs sd00):
At bootprompt add "-c", will prompt for config, enter the filsys lines below.
To make permanent:
cirno# cat oo
filsys main c(/dev/sd01/fscache)(/dev/sd01/fsworm)
filsys dump o
filsys other /dev/sd01/other
end
cirno# cat oo >> /srv/cwfs.cmd
cirno# fshalt -r
Obsolete
If ever needed to boot via grub, this worked, with a small partition for grub
at beg of disk:
/boot/grub/grub.cfg:
insmod part_msdos
set root='hd0,msdos2'
set timeout=3
serial --unit=0 --speed=9600
terminal_input serial
terminal_output serial
menuentry "plan9" {
chainloader +1
}
