OpenTelemetry registry listing nightly release version

With the introduction of nightly releases the Collector components listed on the OTel.io registry are one version ahead the current release.

Today (01 Sept 2025) the latest stable release of the Collector is 0.133.0, but the registry shows 0.134.0.

IMHO the versions listed on the registry should be the latest stable release.

@julianocosta89 the release process for the version 0.134.0 didn't finish successfully yet, that's why this situation is happening. Going one step deeper, this comes from the fact that the release has many separate steps that result in different artifacts being released (Go package, pre-compiled binaries, container images, MSI installers, etc). I assume https://opentelemetry.io/ecosystem/registry/?s=otlpreceiver is listing the Go package release, which is indeed out.

This is not a consequence of the nightly releases. It's a consequence of an issue with the release procedures. You can see through the release repository tags that the nightlies are already building 0.135.0.

We are missing other release artifacts (container images, MSI installers, pre-compiled binaries, and maybe others) due to the process being still unfinished.

@julianocosta89 true! According to the schedule it should've been released only next week indeed. It looks like the schedule changed and the planned version for September 8th moved from 0.134.0 to 0.135.0: open-telemetry/opentelemetry-collector#13737.

There a lot of confusion going on.

The latest github release points to a nightly. Could that be moved back to v0.133.0 ?

@znerol there will be a conversation about this tomorrow in the next Collector SIG call and I believe that after the call is done things will start to be fixed, including that nightly release appearing as latest there.

The latest is now in 0.134.1. I am going to close this since the remaining work would be in the opentelemetry.io side
