New release

In the current release (1.6.0) there is a bug that causes the key images to be broken, see #1946 .

I expected a new version to be released pretty quickly, as this issue seemed pretty major, as the GUI is so minimal that this affects a large part of its total functionality.

But many months have passed, and no new release was published to address this issue. It could even be a minor release (like 1.6.1) since there are almost no other changes.

Is there any timeframe when the next version will be released?

We will start working on the release very soon. The beta version will be released in a few days hopefully!
