I suggest you don't waste your time on proot for now; I've tried it for a long time.

The code in this pull request has not been cleaned up or built-tested. It's copied from a repository I use myself; it should be working, but it needs some modifications.

Due to some unforeseen circumstances, I've lost the motivation to fulfill my previous promises. I've updated some packages and updated the nixpkgs used by bootstrap to version 25.11. It hasn't been built yet, so any help would be greatly appreciated.
