Template not knitting

Tried to knit the template but it doesn't work my end. I get the following error:

The file _main.Rmd exists. Please delete it if it was automatically generated. If you are sure it can be safely overwritten or deleted, please set the option 'delete_merged_file' to true in _bookdown.yml.

But I can see this is already the case in the template. Any idea what's going wrong here?

I tried the template a few years ago and it was all running fine.

i've tested a clean install and have the file compiling correctly - though there are some other issues unrelated to your issue. Try the below in order and we can try work out whats wrong

1. is your main file called index.Rmd? if not, change the name and try again
2. Can you share a screenshot of your index/ directory?
3. Can you push your index/ directory to github so i can look at the files and see if i can figure it out?

i havent looked at any of this since i submitted my thesis in 2022 so you might have to be patient....
