Is `jupyterlab-git` a required dependency?

Hey I'm looking into integrating this package into Jupyter AI. Thank you all for working on this in parallel.

I installed this package and noticed these dependencies are being installed:

Installing collected packages: smmap, colorama, gitdb, gitpython, jupyter-server-mathjax, nbdime, jupyterlab-git, jupyter_ai_tools
Successfully installed colorama-0.4.6 gitdb-4.0.12 gitpython-3.1.45 jupyter-server-mathjax-0.2.6 jupyter_ai_tools-0.2.1 jupyterlab-git-0.51.2 nbdime-4.0.2 smmap-5.0.2

These dependencies are fairly heavy. Do we need to install the jupyterlab-git extension to provide git tools?

We can move to using git from a bash tool as Claude Code does. I think we used to use jupyterlab-git for the git related tools, but that isn't needed any longer.

I am not aware of colorama and mathjax used in tools, these might be added for early explorations, not sure if we are actively using them. Is it possible to see the usage from the code?
