Keep it until 50% of the way through the next interval. For a TOTP with 30 second validity this is not much different than before.
This gives better ergonomics because we can terminate xclip ourselves .. instead of using paste to check whether the copy buffer is the same as our previous TOTP code
this saves horizontal space for when the screen is small.
