[Request] Use old / non-squircle app icon

The versions of OS X this supports don't use apple's new fugly squircle design language so it would be nice to have the normal icon (could probably be fetched out of an older branch of FF's source code?)

I'm using Mavericks and I love the circular icon (but I'm using CDock to give me the non-3D dock you get with Yosemite and later, and which you could opt for in earlier than Mavericks).

To clarify, the icon I have is circular : a blue planet with the orange fox wrapped around the top and bottom...

Not a maintainer, but in theory this shouldn't be that hard, even for the user. could just replace firefox.icns from the resources folder in the app's files

(I even just did this myself! although using the 2012 chrome icon as I'm using geckium)

Doubt this would actually get added though as it seems the entire purpose of the project is just to be modern firefox for legacy OS X systems

Luckily there is a very easy fix for this on OSX:

1. Browse my archive of all versions of Firefox, Developer, and Nightly app icons here and pick your favorite, download the firefox.icns and document.icns files somewhere safe. Firefox 22 or 55 style are the ones that would fit the 10.7-10.9 era of OSX best, but I'm partial to the Developer edition v69 style blue icons myself.
2. Close Firefox if curently open.
3. Open Finder, navigate to Applications. Right click on Firefox.app and click Show Package Contents.
4. Navigate to Contents/Resources and copy the new .icns files there, overwriting the old ugly ass Big Sur style ones.
5. In Applications, right click the Firefox.app again and select Get Info. The new icon should be showing now. If not just drag the new firefox.icns file into the info window and drop it in the top left corner where it says Firefox.app and it should change it. If you have Firefox in the dock and it has not changed, remove it from the dock and re-add it back.
6. Reboot your Mac to get the document icons to change over.
7. Profit.

On 10.9 you'll probably want to re-sign the app bundle. I don't care enough to try if it would have all the same effects, but everyone here knows that you can change a file/directory (and thus also app bundle) icon via the Finder's Get Info feature, right? That won't interfere with the signing.

on 10.13 (using it as 10.15+ has worse battery life on my mba) it uses the new firefox icon that is meant for big sur and newer

Ah. Yes, in my High Sierra VM it's the fugly squircle. I just haven't been bothered to change it as it's a VM but surely you can replace the icon via the Get Info window? .

@MacBiter That icon is not a part of vanilla Firefox Dynasty. It's something that gets added when you use the PrefPane downloader script I made.

I've attached the icon here in case anyone else wants it. Unfortunately, I can't remember who created this wonderful icon, I found it in a random reddit post like five years ago and somehow held onto the file but not where it came from.

And yes, you can just change it via Finder's get info pane. Select the app in Finder, option-click → get info, and drag and drop your new icon over the old one in the info pane. But you'll have to do it again after every update.
