Feature request – QR command for Touchscreen Lock

Hi everyone,

I’m using GoPro Labs on my HERO13 and I’m looking for a way to lock the touchscreen via QR command. On the GoPro itself there is a native option in the UI (swipe down → lock icon) that locks the screen. When enabled, the touchscreen is disabled, but the physical buttons still work normally — I can turn the camera on/off and use the shutter button to start and stop recording. This behavior is exactly what I need when handing the camera to someone else.

The issue is that I cannot find any corresponding command in GoPro Labs to activate this “screen lock” state. I’ve tried thing like oL1, but that actually changes the language to German (do not trust the ChatGPT, it suggested), not lock the touchscreen. I’m aware of *ARCH=1, but that goes further than I want — it locks the camera completely and forces recording on power-up, which doesn’t fit my use case.

What I would like is a way to set the camera into a specific preset at boot (e.g. $PRES="My Preset") and then lock the touchscreen so that the only possible actions are powering the camera on/off and pressing the shutter to start/stop recording. Is there currently a Labs command that does this, or could such a command (something like oLOCK=1 / oLOCK=0) be considered for a future update?

There is an undocumented command

tD - touch Disable
tE - touch Enable

I think it is HERO13 and MAX2 only, as it is very new.

How to generate the QR code for these two commands?

This just solved my problem as well, as I do not want students to change the settings in the video.

We are operating both GP11 and GP13. Please extend the functionality to GP11 as well.

Any QR Code generator, or just use the Addition Command field within https://gopro.github.io/labs/control/custom/

GP11 is unlikely to see another Labs update any time soon. Labs updates occur more often for cameras we still sell, so development will focus on H12, H13 and MAX2. While it might happen for H11, there are no plans for that at the moment.

That's a shame. We have several units of GP11 at uni.

I think the best way to make the previous GoPro useful is to have a function to let it be used for a particular need. Hence, if it can be set to one particular video setting and have it "locked" through Touch Disable, it would give the old video camera a purpose.
