@rhempel, I have made quite a few changes to various motor-related things. Some of it is in tacho_motor_class and ev3_tacho_motor, so I wanted to give you a chance to review it before I merge it. This would be a good change to try out your motor test scripts to make sure I didn't break anything.

I did make one purposely breaking change to the tacho-motor class. The devices are now named motor0 instead of tacho-motor0. This is for consistency with the other new motor classes that I have introduced.

I saw the servo-motor and dc-motor class items - thanks for doing that job. So I made a bunch of changes to the tacho-motor class this afternoon to clean up the code review comments. I'll spend some time tomorrow then looking at your changes and merging them.

Lots of good stuff happening, I am happy that you're taking such good care of the project :-)

The regulated timed ramp modes are not working as expected. The ramp appears to be driving to a percentage of the max speed, not a percentage of the setpoint. I need to look at the merge to make sure that something basic did not get broken.
I'm looking forward to testing the DC motor mode though - I have some PF motors that I'd like to mess with here...it would be a good added feature for ev3dev

Are you talking about the tacho motors here? I did not mess with the ramping there, but that doesn't mean that something else I did has an effect on it.

[ I'm currently running my tests on it now, and so far, after a few
 hours it has yet to blow up. I'll run it for 24 hours which it never
 succeeded in the past. ]

The tracing code has a way to make directories within the debugfs file
system as well as deleting them using mkdir/rmdir in the instance
directory. This is very limited in functionality, such as there is
no renames, and the parent directory "instance" can not be modified.
The tracing code creates the instance directory from the debugfs code
and then replaces the dentry->d_inode->i_op with its own to allow
for mkdir/rmdir to work.

When these are called, the d_entry and inode locks need to be released
to call the instance creation and deletion code. That code has its own
accounting and locking to serialize everything to prevent multiple
users from causing harm. As the parent "instance" directory can not
be modified this simplifies things.

I created a stress test that creates several threads that randomly
creates and deletes directories thousands of times a second. The code
stood up to this test and I submitted it a while ago.

Recently I added a new test that adds readers to the mix. While the
instance directories were being added and deleted, readers would read
from these directories and even enable tracing within them. This test
was able to trigger a bug:

It took a while, but every time it triggered, it was always in the
same place:

Where the child->d_u.d_child seemed to be corrupted.  I added lots of
trace_printk()s to see what was wrong, and sure enough, it was always
the child's d_u.d_child field. I looked around to see what touches
it and noticed that in __dentry_kill() which calls dentry_free():

I also noticed that __dentry_kill() unlinks the child->d_u.child
under the parent->d_lock spin_lock.

Looking back at the loop in debugfs_remove_recursive() it never takes the
parent->d_lock to do the list walk. Adding more tracing, I was able to
prove this was the issue:

The dentry_kill freed ffff88006d573600 just as the remove recursive was walking
it.

In order to fix this, the list walk needs to be modified a bit to take
the parent->d_lock. The safe version is no longer necessary, as every
time we remove a child, the parent->d_lock must be released and the
list walk must start over. Each time a child is removed, even though it
may still be on the list, it should be skipped by the first check
in the loop:

This indicates a NULL corruption in prefs_delayed list.  The further
investigation and bisection pointed that the call of ulist_add_merge()
results in the corruption.

ulist_add_merge() takes u64 as aux and writes a 64bit value into
old_aux.  The callers of this function in backref.c, however, pass a
pointer of a pointer to old_aux.  That is, the function overwrites
64bit value on 32bit pointer.  This caused a NULL in the adjacent
variable, in this case, prefs_delayed.

Here is a quick attempt to band-aid over this: a new function,
ulist_add_merge_ptr() is introduced to pass/store properly a pointer
value instead of u64.  There are still ugly void ** cast remaining
in the callers because void ** cannot be taken implicitly.  But, it's
safer than explicit cast to u64, anyway.

Function remove_ddw() could be called in of_reconfig_notifier and
we potentially remove the dynamic DMA window property, which invokes
of_reconfig_notifier again. Eventually, it leads to the deadlock as
following backtrace shows.

The patch fixes the above issue by deferring releasing the dynamic
DMA window property while releasing the device node.

When ACPI_HOTPLUG_MEMORY is not configured, memory_device_handler.attach
is not set.  In acpi_scan_attach_handler(), the acpi_device->handler will
not be initialized.

In acpi_scan_hot_remove(), it doesn't check if acpi_device->handler is NULL.
If we do memory hot-remove without ACPI_HOTPLUG_MEMORY configured, the kernel
will panic.

It seems that the corrupted partition header on my mtd device triggers
a bug in the ftl. In function build_maps() it will allocate the buffers
needed by the mtd partition, but if something goes wrong such as kmalloc
failure, mtd read error or invalid partition header parameter, it will
free all allocated buffers and then return non-zero. In my case, it
seems that partition header parameter 'NumTransferUnits' is invalid.

And the ftl_freepart() is a function which free all the partition
buffers allocated by build_maps(). Given the build_maps() is a self
cleaning function, so there is no need to invoke this function even
if build_maps() return with error. Otherwise it will causes the
buffers to be freed twice and then weird things would happen.

This fixes CVE-2014-3631.

It is possible for an associative array to end up with a shortcut node at the
root of the tree if there are more than fan-out leaves in the tree, but they
all crowd into the same slot in the lowest level (ie. they all have the same
first nibble of their index keys).

When assoc_array_gc() returns back up the tree after scanning some leaves, it
can fall off of the root and crash because it assumes that the back pointer
from a shortcut (after label ascend_old_tree) must point to a normal node -
which isn't true of a shortcut node at the root.

Should we find we're ascending rootwards over a shortcut, we should check to
see if the backpointer is zero - and if it is, we have completed the scan.

This particular bug cannot occur if the root node is not a shortcut - ie. if
you have fewer than 17 keys in a keyring or if you have at least two keys that
sit into separate slots (eg. a keyring and a non keyring).

This can be reproduced by:

	ring=`keyctl newring bar @s`
	for ((i=1; i<=18; i++)); do last_key=`keyctl newring foo$i $ring`; done
	keyctl timeout $last_key 2

Doing this:

	echo 3 >/proc/sys/kernel/keys/gc_delay

first will speed things up.

We allocate the cpufreq table after calling rcu_read_lock(),
which disables preemption. This causes scheduling while atomic
warnings. Use GFP_ATOMIC instead of GFP_KERNEL and update for

This is caused by only having one channel out of the pair configured in
DT; the second channel remains uninitialised, but upon unbind, the
driver attempts to clean up both, thereby dereferencing a NULL pointer.
Avoid this by checking that the second channel is initialised.

This reverts commit fc1b253 ("PCI: Don't scan random busses in
pci_scan_bridge()") because it breaks CardBus on some machines.

David tested a Dell Latitude D505 that worked like this prior to
fc1b253:

    pci 0000:00:1e.0: PCI bridge to [bus 01]
    pci 0000:01:01.0: CardBus bridge to [bus 02-05]

Note that the 01:01.0 CardBus bridge has a bus number aperture of
[bus 02-05], but those buses are all outside the 00:1e.0 PCI bridge bus
number aperture, so accesses to buses 02-05 never reach CardBus.  This is
later patched up by yenta_fixup_parent_bridge(), which changes the
subordinate bus number of the 00:1e.0 PCI bridge:

    pci_bus 0000:01: Raising subordinate bus# of parent bus (ev3dev#1) from ev3dev#1 to ev3dev#5

With fc1b253, pci_scan_bridge() fails immediately when it notices that
we can't allocate a valid secondary bus number for the CardBus bridge, and
CardBus doesn't work at all:

    pci 0000:01:01.0: can't allocate child bus 01 from [bus 01]

I'd prefer to fix this by integrating the yenta_fixup_parent_bridge() logic
into pci_scan_bridge() so we fix the bus number apertures up front.  But
I don't think we can do that before v3.17, so I'm going to revert this to
avoid the problem while we're working on the long-term fix.

If cpufreq_driver->get(policy->cpu) returns an error we execute the
code at err_get_freq, which does not up the policy->rwsem.  This causes

Trivial patch to up the policy->rwsem in the error path.

We don't know right timestamp for repaired skb-s. Wrong RTT estimations
isn't good, because some congestion modules heavily depends on it.

This patch adds the TCPCB_REPAIRED flag, which is included in
TCPCB_RETRANS.

Use dst_entry held by sk_dst_get() to retrieve tunnel's PMTU.

The dst_mtu(__sk_dst_get(tunnel->sock)) call was racy. __sk_dst_get()
could return NULL if tunnel->sock->sk_dst_cache was reset just before the
call, thus making dst_mtu() dereference a NULL pointer:

The problem is that the slave is first linked and slave_cnt is
incremented afterwards leading to a div by zero in the modes that use it
as a modulus. What happens is that in bond_start_xmit()
bond_has_slaves() is used to evaluate further transmission and it becomes
true after the slave is linked in, but when slave_cnt is used in the xmit
path it is still 0, so fetch it once and transmit based on that. Since
it is used only in round-robin and XOR modes, the fix is only for them.
Thanks to Eric Dumazet for pointing out the fault in my first try to fix
this.

Commit 92d585e ("numa: fix NULL pointer access and memory
leak in unregister_one_node()") added kfree() of node struct in
unregister_one_node(). But node struct is freed by node_device_release()
which is called in  unregister_node(). So by adding the kfree(),
node struct is freed two times.

While hot removing memory, the commit leads the following BUG_ON():

If we create a file when we mount with ecryptfs_xattr_metadata option, we will
encounter a crash in this path:

It's because our dentry->d_inode used in fsstack_copy_attr_all is NULL, and it
will be initialized when ecryptfs_initialize_file finish.

So we should skip copying attr from lower inode when the value of ->d_inode is
invalid.

Every path that ends up at do_sparc64_fault() must install a valid
FAULT_CODE_* bitmask in the per-thread fault code byte.

Two paths leading to the label winfix_trampoline (which expects the
FAULT_CODE_* mask in register %g4) were not doing so:

1) For pre-hypervisor TLB protection violation traps, if we took
   the 'winfix_trampoline' path we wouldn't have %g4 initialized
   with the FAULT_CODE_* value yet.  Resulting in using the
   TLB_TAG_ACCESS register address value instead.

2) In the TSB miss path, when we notice that we are going to use a
   hugepage mapping, but we haven't allocated the hugepage TSB yet, we
   still have to take the window fixup case into consideration and
   in that particular path we leave %g4 not setup properly.

Errors on this sort were largely invisible previously, but after
commit 4ccb927 ("sparc64: sun4v TLB
error power off events") we now have a fault_code mask bit
(FAULT_CODE_BAD_RA) that triggers due to this bug.

FAULT_CODE_BAD_RA triggers because this bit is set in TLB_TAG_ACCESS
(see ev3dev#1 above) and thus we get seemingly random bus errors triggered
for user processes.

If "try_verify_in_tasklet" is set for dm-verity, DM_BUFIO_CLIENT_NO_SLEEP
is enabled for dm-bufio. However, when bufio tries to evict buffers, there

__timerlat_dump_stack() constructs the ftrace stack entry like this:

Since commit e7186af ("tracing: Add back FORTIFY_SOURCE logic to
kernel_stack event structure"), struct stack_entry marks its caller
field with __counted_by(size). At the time of the memcpy, entry->size
contains garbage from the ringbuffer, which under some circumstances is
zero, triggering a kernel panic by buffer overflow.

Populate the size field before the memcpy so that the out-of-bounds
check knows the correct size. This is analogous to
__ftrace_trace_stack().

When device reset is triggered by feature changes such as toggling Rx
VLAN offload, wx->do_reset() is called to reinitialize Rx rings. The
hardware descriptor ring may retain stale values from previous sessions.
And only set the length to 0 in rx_desc[0] would result in building
malformed SKBs. Fix it to ensure a clean slate after device reset.

syzbot reported weird splats [0][1] in cipso_v4_sock_setattr() while
freeing inet_sk(sk)->inet_opt.

The address was freed multiple times even though it was read-only memory.

cipso_v4_sock_setattr() did nothing wrong, and the root cause was type
confusion.

The cited commit made it possible to create smc_sock as an INET socket.

The issue is that struct smc_sock does not have struct inet_sock as the
first member but hijacks AF_INET and AF_INET6 sk_family, which confuses
various places.

In this case, inet_sock.inet_opt was actually smc_sock.clcsk_data_ready(),
which is an address of a function in the text segment.

The same issue for another field was reported before. [2][3]

At that time, an ugly hack was suggested [4], but it makes both INET
and SMC code error-prone and hard to change.

Also, yet another variant was fixed by a hacky commit 98d4435
("net/smc: prevent NULL pointer dereference in txopt_get").

Instead of papering over the root cause by such hacks, we should not
allow non-INET socket to reuse the INET infra.

Let's add inet_sock as the first member of smc_sock.

Assuming the "rx-vlan-filter" feature is enabled on a net device, the
8021q module will automatically add or remove VLAN 0 when the net device
is put administratively up or down, respectively. There are a couple of
problems with the above scheme.

The first problem is a memory leak that can happen if the "rx-vlan-filter"
feature is disabled while the device is running:

 # ip link add bond1 up type bond mode 0
 # ethtool -K bond1 rx-vlan-filter off
 # ip link del dev bond1

When the device is put administratively down the "rx-vlan-filter"
feature is disabled, so the 8021q module will not remove VLAN 0 and the
memory will be leaked [1].

Another problem that can happen is that the kernel can automatically
delete VLAN 0 when the device is put administratively down despite not
adding it when the device was put administratively up since during that
time the "rx-vlan-filter" feature was disabled. null-ptr-unref or
bug_on[2] will be triggered by unregister_vlan_dev() for refcount
imbalance if toggling filtering during runtime:

collect_md property on xfrm interfaces can only be set on device creation,
thus xfrmi_changelink() should fail when called on such interfaces.

The check to enforce this was done only in the case where the xi was
returned from xfrmi_locate() which doesn't look for the collect_md
interface, and thus the validation was never reached.

Calling changelink would thus errornously place the special interface xi
in the xfrmi_net->xfrmi hash, but since it also exists in the
xfrmi_net->collect_md_xfrmi pointer it would lead to a double free when
the net namespace was taken down [1].

Change the check to use the xi from netdev_priv which is available earlier
in the function to prevent changes in xfrm collect_md interfaces.

This happens when 'clear_inode()' makes an attempt to finalize an underlying
JFS inode of unknown type. According to JFS layout description from
https://jfs.sourceforge.net/project/pub/jfslayout.pdf, inode types from 5 to
15 are reserved for future extensions and should not be encountered on a valid
filesystem. So add an extra check for valid inode type in 'copy_from_dinode()'.

Punching a hole with a start offset that exceeds max_end is not
permitted and will result in a negative length in the
truncate_inode_partial_folio() function while truncating the page cache,

This indicates that the pgoff is unaligned.  After analysis, I confirm the
vma is mapped to /dev/zero.  Such a vma certainly has vm_file, but it is
set to anonymous by mmap_zero().  So even if it's mmapped by 2m-unaligned,
it can pass the check in thp_vma_allowable_order() as it is an
anonymous-mmap, but then be collapsed as a file-mmap.

It seems the problem has existed for a long time, but actually, since we
have khugepaged_max_ptes_none check before, we will skip collapse it as it
is /dev/zero and so has no present page.  But commit d8ea7cc limit
the check for only khugepaged, so the BUG_ON() can be triggered by
madvise_collapse().

Add vma_is_anonymous() check to make such vma be processed by
hpage_collapse_scan_pmd().

With a quite rare chance, RX report might be problematic to make SW think
a packet is received on 6 GHz band even if the chip does not support 6 GHz
band actually. Since SW won't initialize stuffs for unsupported bands, NULL
dereference will happen then in the sequence, rtw89_vif_rx_stats_iter() ->
rtw89_core_cancel_6ghz_probe_tx(). So, add a check to avoid it.

In rtl8187_stop() move the call of usb_kill_anchored_urbs() before clearing

syzbot reported that the netfilter bpf prog can be called without
migration disabled in xmit path.

Hardware returns a unique identifier for a decrypted packet's xfrm
state, this state is looked up in an xarray. However, the state might
have been freed by the time of this lookup.

Currently, if the state is not found, only a counter is incremented.
The secpath (sp) extension on the skb is not removed, resulting in
sp->len becoming 0.

Subsequently, functions like __xfrm_policy_check() attempt to access
fields such as xfrm_input_state(skb)->xso.type (which dereferences
sp->xvec[sp->len - 1]) without first validating sp->len. This leads to
a crash when dereferencing an invalid state pointer.

This patch prevents the crash by explicitly removing the secpath
extension from the skb if the xfrm state is not found after hardware
decryption. This ensures downstream functions do not operate on a
zero-length secpath.

When gmin_get_config_var() calls efi.get_variable() and the EFI variable
is larger than the expected buffer size, two behaviors combine to create
a stack buffer overflow:

1. gmin_get_config_var() does not return the proper error code when
   efi.get_variable() fails. It returns the stale 'ret' value from
   earlier operations instead of indicating the EFI failure.

2. When efi.get_variable() returns EFI_BUFFER_TOO_SMALL, it updates
   *out_len to the required buffer size but writes no data to the output
   buffer. However, due to bug #1, gmin_get_var_int() believes the call
   succeeded.

The caller gmin_get_var_int() then performs:
- Allocates val[CFG_VAR_NAME_MAX + 1] (65 bytes) on stack
- Calls gmin_get_config_var(dev, is_gmin, var, val, &len) with len=64
- If EFI variable is >64 bytes, efi.get_variable() sets len=required_size
- Due to bug #1, thinks call succeeded with len=required_size
- Executes val[len] = 0, writing past end of 65-byte stack buffer

This creates a stack buffer overflow when EFI variables are larger than
64 bytes. Since EFI variables can be controlled by firmware or system
configuration, this could potentially be exploited for code execution.

Fix the bug by returning proper error codes from gmin_get_config_var()
based on EFI status instead of stale 'ret' value.

The gmin_get_var_int() function is called during device initialization
for camera sensor configuration on Intel Bay Trail and Cherry Trail
platforms using the atomisp camera stack.

This patch sets ccp_debugfs_dir to NULL after destroying it in
ccp5_debugfs_destroy, allowing the directory dentry to be
recreated when rebinding the ccp device.

Tested on AMD Ryzen 7 1700X.

Enabling runtime PM without explicitly resuming the device caused
the power domain cut off after clk_register() is called. As a result,
a crash happens when the clock hardware provider is added and attempts
to access the BLK_CTL register.

Fix this by using devm_pm_runtime_enable() instead of pm_runtime_enable()
and getting rid of the pm_runtime_disable() in the cleanup path.

To trigger gso segment in udp_queue_rcv_skb(), we should also set option
UDP_ENCAP_ESPINUDP to enable udp_sk(sk)->encap_rcv. When the encap_rcv
hook return 1 in udp_queue_rcv_one_skb(), udp_csum_pull_header() will try
to pull udphdr, but the skb size has been segmented to gso size, which
leads to this crash.

Previous commit cf329aa ("udp: cope with UDP GRO packet misdirection")
introduces segmentation in UDP receive path only for GRO, which was never
intended to be used for UFO, so drop UFO packets in udp_rcv_segment().

usage.

If ti_csi2rx_start_dma() fails in ti_csi2rx_dma_callback(), the buffer is
marked done with VB2_BUF_STATE_ERROR but is not removed from the DMA queue.
This causes the same buffer to be retried in the next iteration, resulting
in a double list_del() and eventual list corruption.

Fix this by removing the buffer from the queue before calling
vb2_buffer_done() on error.

A malicious HID device with quirk APPLE_MAGIC_BACKLIGHT can trigger a NULL
pointer dereference whilst the power feature-report is toggled and sent to
the device in apple_magic_backlight_report_set(). The power feature-report
is expected to have two data fields, but if the descriptor declares one
field then accessing field[1] and dereferencing it in
apple_magic_backlight_report_set() becomes invalid
since field[1] will be NULL.

An example of a minimal descriptor which can cause the crash is something
like the following where the report with ID 3 (power report) only
references a single 1-byte field. When hid core parses the descriptor it
will encounter the final feature tag, allocate a hid_report (all members
of field[] will be zeroed out), create field structure and populate it,
increasing the maxfield to 1. The subsequent field[1] access and
dereference causes the crash.

1. In func configfs_composite_bind() -> composite_os_desc_req_prepare():
if kmalloc fails, the pointer cdev->os_desc_req will be freed but not
set to NULL. Then it will return a failure to the upper-level function.

The hfs_fill_super() calls hfs_mdb_get() method that tries
to construct Extents Tree and Catalog Tree:

However, hfs_btree_open() calls read_mapping_page() that
calls hfs_get_block(). And this method calls hfs_ext_read_extent():

The problem here that hfs_find_init() is trying to use
HFS_SB(inode->i_sb)->ext_tree that is not initialized yet.
It will be initailized when hfs_btree_open() finishes
the execution.

The patch adds checking of tree pointer in hfs_find_init()
and it reworks the logic of hfs_btree_open() by reading
the b-tree's header directly from the volume. The read_mapping_page()
is exchanged on filemap_grab_folio() that grab the folio from
mapping. Then, sb_bread() extracts the b-tree's header
content and copy it into the folio.

The hfsplus_uni2asc() method operates by struct hfsplus_unistr:

where HFSPLUS_MAX_STRLEN is 255 bytes. The issue happens if length
of the structure instance has value bigger than 255 (for example,
65283). In such case, pointer on unicode buffer is going beyond of
the allocated memory.

The patch fixes the issue by checking the length value of
hfsplus_unistr instance and using 255 value in the case if length
value is bigger than HFSPLUS_MAX_STRLEN. Potential reason of such
situation could be a corruption of Catalog File b-tree's node.

Shuang reported sch_ets test-case [1] crashing in ets_class_qlen_notify()
after recent changes from Lion [2]. The problem is: in ets_qdisc_change()
we purge unused DWRR queues; the value of 'q->nbands' is the new one, and
the cleanup should be done with the old one. The problem is here since my
first attempts to fix ets_qdisc_change(), but it surfaced again after the
recent qdisc len accounting fixes. Fix it purging idle DWRR queues before
assigning a new value of 'q->nbands', so that all purge operations find a
consistent configuration:

 - old 'q->nbands' because it's needed by ets_class_find()
 - old 'q->nstrict' because it's needed by ets_class_is_strict()

The existing code move the VF NIC to new namespace when NETDEV_REGISTER is
received on netvsc NIC. During deletion of the namespace,
default_device_exit_batch() >> default_device_exit_net() is called. When
netvsc NIC is moved back and registered to the default namespace, it
automatically brings VF NIC back to the default namespace. This will cause
the default_device_exit_net() >> for_each_netdev_safe loop unable to detect
the list end, and hit NULL ptr:

To fix it, move the ns change to a workqueue, and take rtnl_lock to avoid
changing the netdev list when default_device_exit_net() is using it.
