Autocomplete @mention makes a bad choice #31285

@lampholder

Description

@lampholder

Steps to reproduce

In the composer, I want to get Arthur's attention, so I type @ ar then tab.
Instead of picking Arthur, the autocomplete picks Amandine. Neither Amandine's full mxid nor her display name include the substring "ar" in it anywhere, so it's an odd choice.

You don't have to type quickly, if you just type @ar you'll get a dropdown with Amandine at the top.

This happens in any room that has both Arthur and Amandine in it.

Outcome

What did you expect?

Arthur

What happened instead?

Amandine
