Clicking on (TypeScript) language status item does not show language status tooltips

Bug Description:

Steps to Reproduce:

1. With the TypeScript Language Features plugin installed.
2. Open a TypeScript file
3. Click the {} next to the language indicator:

4. Observe that nothing happens.

It should show something like this:

Thanks for reporting this, @colin-grant-work !

I just tested the language status item on the latest master (b31bded) on both browser and Electron (and on Ubuntu), and it worked as expected. The item opens on both click and hover.

I tested it without any custom extensions (1), as well as my go-to extensions (recommended ESLint and cSpell) (2):

Just FYI, I also worked on this area recently (#15971).

Could this be macOS-specific?

Hmm, thanks for checking @ndoschek. MacOS-specificity seems like a reasonable hypothesis, since I'm definitely not seeing it, still. I'll do some investigation on my side and see what comes out.

I think in the end I was actually just confused about behavior: in VSCode, clicking on that item brings up the tooltip immediately; in Theia, only hovering for the necessary time brings it up. But it does bring it up eventually, so I was just being impatient.

Ah I get the issue now, if you do not wait for the hover popup and click (even repeatedly), the popup won't show also in my case.
I quickly checked how i implemented it back then, and the click basically requests the hover popup as the normal hover action would do.

And I found something interesting there 👀

I'm not sure how to judge reasonability, but it does match VSCode:

I do think it might be nice to be able to request the hover immediately, so that we could do that in the click case.
