Original CC Report: chromiecraft/chromiecraft#8190
I can add more infos:
- If a player doesn' have the quest, Warsong Hold Warriors/Mages/Shamans can still go out from the cocoons.
- The peons don't appear from the cocoons unless the player doesn't have the quest active.
- If a player have three guardians but doesn't have the quest, no more npcs will appear from the cocoons.
- If a player have three guardians and have the quest active, only the peons will appear from the cocoons.
- Warsong Hold Warriors/Mages/Shamans and Peons should have a dialogue line when they go out the cocoons.
- Warsong Hold Warriors/Mages/Shamans should despawn after 90 seconds.
- Before despawning, Warsong Hold Warriors/Mages/Shamans should say a dialogue line and cast a spell and/or starting a random movement (depending on the NPC).
- On AC Warsong Hold Warriors/Mages/Shamans don't have abilities. They should have them.
Current Behaviour
Destroying the cocoon reveals nothing unless you are on the quest 'Taken by the Scourge'.
The cocoons are to have captive peons and high level NPCs who act as guardians. Destroying the cocoons revealed nothing before I took the quest, then when I was on the quest each cocoon had an NPC in it. After completion of the quest before I even handed it, they went back to having nothing inside.
You can seemingly have unlimited guardians when comments say the cap is 3.
Expected Blizzlike Behaviour
The Nerub'ar victims from what I can see on wowhead comments for this and the associated quest, should still at least have some guardians in them even when not on the quest, as implied by this comment https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/quest=11611/taken-by-the-scourge#comments:id=546630 which suggests continuing to destroy them after completing the peon quest for the additional assistance of the guardians.
For guardians, this comment https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/quest=11611/taken-by-the-scourge#comments:id=457945 says you can only have a maximum of 3. I had 7. in the screen shot below I have 5.
The comments aren't from the same patch only up to 3.2, but there's no mention of these changing in a later patch?

Steps to reproduce the problem
Don't have the quest 'Taken by the Scourge'
Destroy a Nerub'ar Victim cocoon
Nothing happens!
Gain quest 'Taken by the Scourge'
Destroy the cocoon
A peon or a guardian appears! Until 5 peons have been freed. Then nothing, even if the quest has not been handed in.
Many many guardians may appear to join you on your quest, much more than the suggested 3.
