As Performance Insights is moving to Amazon CloudWatch. We want to enable the Database Insights for RDS instance using CDK.

Performance Insights is moving to Amazon CloudWatch
On November 30, 2025, Amazon RDS will no longer support the Performance Insights console experience, flexible retention periods, and their associated pricing. To continue to view Performance Insights metrics, use Database Insights in Amazon CloudWatch.

Use Case

To continue to view Performance Insights metrics and historic metrics data from Performance Insights using Database Insights in Amazon CloudWatch.

Thank you for submitting this feature request for Database Insights support in RDS PostgreSQL instances.

I've analyzed this request and here's what we're looking at:

1. Current Situation:

• Performance Insights is moving to CloudWatch as Database Insights by November 30, 2025
• Currently, CDK supports Performance Insights for RDS instances through enablePerformanceInsights, performanceInsightRetention, and performanceInsightEncryptionKey properties

2. What's Changing:
   Database Insights introduces two modes:

• Standard mode (default)
• Advanced mode (requires Performance Insights enabled with 465-day retention)

3. Implementation Plan:
   We'll approach this similarly to how we implemented Database Insights for Aurora in PR #32851. The plan is to:

4. Add Database Insights mode support to RDS instances

5. Automatically configure the required settings for advanced mode

6. Maintain backward compatibility with existing Performance Insights configurations

7. Next Steps:
   Would you be interested in contributing to this feature? If so, here's what you'll need to work on:

• Add databaseInsightsMode property to DatabaseInstanceProps
• Implement the validation logic for advanced mode requirements
• Add integration tests
• Update documentation
