Polaris never completes a scan

Setting up polaris on a sizable collection it just never finishes indexing. After a random time it shows "out of date" in the ui and restarts a few minutes later. However nothing is changing on disk (it is mounted read only in the polaris container and i'm not changing the files either)

At this point it has been scanning the same files non stop (and putting a massive io pressure on the entire server) for over 48 hours. The only errors in the log is that it fails to read the id3 tag (while it is present) on a bunch of files.

Is there a way to configure polaris to not kill the server with io pressure and just ignore the faulty "out of date" thing?

Maybe also relevant: the old scan never seems to be canceled, it keeps spitting out the id3 errors while showing out of date on the ui, and each scan gets progressively slower until i reboot the container
