Are ESP8266 Devices still supported?

In the official setup instructions I see the steps for esp8266. But when I perform the said steps I'm running into some issues.

I see a few people have built some devices with esp8266 and SmartThings direct connected devices.

In wayback machine also I see this was a different repository

Hello.
If you want to use ESP8266, you should use under SmartThings SDK version 1.X.X.

We are moving to deprecate WiFi-base connection with SmartThings App.
ESP8266 doesn't support BLE, so we plan to support no more.

It seems that there was a lock of updates on the related description.
We will add the description of WiFi deprecate for ESP8266 and other chipsets
