Is there a way to disable the highlightning of the Flipview when mouse cursor is over the view?

At this time, no. It was a feature I added recently in order to make it more similar to it's Windows 8 counterpart (which I based it on when I created our FlipView).

I just had a look at the XAML FlipView control sample (Windows 8) - Windows SDK and I cannot see that behavior. When I move the mouse over the Flipview the surrounding frame does not change. Only the navigation buttons get highlighted.
I did not dig in very deep but I think it is the default behavior of the Selector class your control is based on. And it makes sense for multiple selection but not for a single selection.
Do you see any chance to make that at least adjustable?

I have to correct, just found the "GlowBorder" trigger in Flipview.xaml.
