gamescope not loading / blank screen after nixos loaded

Hi,

I am attempting to build myself a steambox and would really like to use jovian for this.

However I am running into an issue. Whenever I build a vm with for my flake with jovian and run it. It will do the whole nixos spiel with starting all the services (all the text scrolling past). But as soon as that is done I only have a blank screen with a blinking cursor. I can't really type anything, as soon as I do its gone on the next frame. This makes me think something is failing to start / crashing in a loop.

I've done a load of googling and searching. My jovian config does not stand out from all the ones I could on github so I doubt it is that.
I also found a forum post somewhere that had a similar sounding issue with bazzite, there they were hinting at an issue with gamescope and iGPU. So this has me wondering if the issue is related to me trying to run it as a vm. The reason I do this is so that I can confirm the state of new builds I make before committing it to the actual hardware.

So I suppose my question is: Should I yolo it and install my build on my steamdeck? Or is this a real issue that I should fix first?

is there anyway for me to confirm it working before potenitally messing up my steamdeck?

You could try building an ISO image and booting it. But also, it's extremely difficult to break a Steam Deck in a way that's impossible to recover - I don't think I've seen this happen ever.

yea, I guess I could always run the official restore image if needed, that's fair.
