Different Metrics backends support different OTEL Aggregation Temporality. When using the otel-collector/Grafana Alloy and targeting Prometheus, only the Prometheus exporter can be used with the current stack, requiring a Prometheus scrape target. When using the Prometheus Remote Write export, otel-collector/Grafana will silently drop the metrics as Prometheus does not support Delta Aggregation.
Why would it be useful?
This feature would allow users to configure the observability for their Metrics backend of choice, ensuring the Aggregation Temporality is used for what it supports.
