Why prefer no release rather than selected quality

Hey,

I've just been wondering why for all the profiles, let's say 2160p Quality in this example is selected, if there is a release that's for example a 2160p Blu-ray, why will that never be grabbed? My point is, isn't it better to have some release instead of just getting no release if the quality is not favorable? Especially since it can still be upgraded if something better becomes available. I may just be missing something, just seems like it would be plain better with no downsides.

Sure, so all the 4K currently existing profiles support qualities like this, but I'll use 2160p Quality as an example:
Bluray-2160p, WEBDL-2160p, Bluray-1080p, WEBDL-1080p, WEBRip-1080p, ...
What I don't understand is why disable qualities like HDTV-1080p for example instead of just place them below the higher quality releases? I would figure it's better to get something even if it's not preferred, no?

I have experienced exactly the same issue. I have selected "1080p Balanced" and a SDTV release was preferred above a HDTV-1080. I could perhaps understand if a WEBDL-720p was preferred above a HDTV-1080 release , but the SDTV release is also a tv recording, just worse quality than the HDTV-1080p one.

The simple answer is HDTV is poor quality and thus no particular reason to let it in besides having to deal with multiple quality upgrades beyond that.

I guess fair enough, I would maybe just imagine there would exist a profile that prefers getting some file rather than no file if it's not of desirable quality.

Such a profile would also be helpful for me too. Several of my shows seem to only be released in HDTV format recently, so I am currently having to manually search and override to get them to download

Manual download is preferred for anything that requires hdtv. There's no easy way to control hdtv once added into the profile as there are so many bad groups at that level. And it would cause everything to grab that first if it were added causing an additional download for everything else.

You can always allow it yourself and put it at the bottom of your quality list to later be replaced by anything better.

First of: Thanks for creating these tools!

+1 to having a profile that tries to always download something.

Maybe one solution would be (not sure if feasable) to allow for manual fallback profile assembly.
For example instead of having the 1080p Efficient fallbacks hardcoded as
Efficient Capable > 720p Fallback > SD Fallback

The user would be able to assemble their own profiles. For example:

• 2160p Quality > 2160 Balanced > 1080p Quality > 1080 Balanced

This would mean that the scores would need to be adjusted on the fly but the result would be the best of both worlds. You get preconfigured profiles while still being able to assemble them on a high level in any way you like.
