custom applet

I have been looking for a gnome extension for a long time, which will allow me to display the number or name of my current workspace in a floating widget, however this was in vain, I prefer to have my panel hidden (which I manage to achieve with an extension), is there an applet which could show me the result of a command? like that I could make a script that returns the name and number of the current workspace and be able to display it.
