Support for direnv

I am a nix user and start most my projects from a devshell. Zed works with this but I do need to start zed from a shell and it renders the project switcher useless. When scrolling the config I found there is support for venv. Would it be possible to extend this to also support loading direnv/envrc files which what I use to load nix devshell?

That do not help with reopening projects with recent projects. Recent projects will not reload the original environment used to open the project.

Hi! I'm also interested on this, and this involves nix as well. What I understand is that currently, to make Zed respect direnv's .envrc, we currently need to open Zed from a shell (because reopening with "Recent projects" doesn't work). It seems there's an additional inconsistency: if I open the Terminal Panel, the newly created terminal doesn't respect the .envrc file (despite having executed direnv allow in the same --external-- shell, before firing Zed), which makes me doubt if Zed is respecting the .envrc at all.

Just out of curiosity. Are you using another shell than the default? And if so, is your default shell configured for direnv?

I ask because I get all environment variables even when opening using recent projects.
I use mise now not direnv (and never looked back) but the same should work on both.
