Do Markdown schemas apply to MDITA?

I can't tell from reading the Markdown Schemas and Custom schemas pages of the docs.

But there's this sentence in MDITA syntax:

The MDITA parser processes topics according to the MDITA “Extended profile” proposed for LwDITA. The "Core profile" can be enabled for custom parser configurations.

But if you are customizing Markdown parsing, aren't you then deviating from the Core profile as described in the LwDITA draft spec?
