As an OSS developer that recently adopted this solution in https://github.com/AsyncFuncAI/deepwiki-open, I am backing this initiative. |

Hi GitHub Community and Team,
I’m excited to share tip.md, a service that empowers open-source developers to receive cryptocurrency tips (Ethereum, Solana, Bitcoin Lightning) through a simple Markdown button in their GitHub READMEs, like this:
The crypto bridge for open-source rewards
It’s designed to be frictionless for supporters, free to join, with a 4% fee on tips only, no code changes, and even supports AI assistants via an MCP server for agentic tipping workflows. You can learn more in our README.
I’d love to propose two enhancements to GitHub Sponsors to better support platforms like tip.md:
Add tip.md as a Supported Sponsor Platform:GitHub Sponsors already supports platforms like Buy Me a Coffee and Patreon, which render as styled buttons in the repository’s sponsor section. Could the GitHub team consider adding tip.md as a supported platform? This would allow developers to display a native “Tip in Crypto” button alongside other funding options, making it easier for supporters to reward open-source work with cryptocurrency.
Enable Styling for Custom Links in FUNDING.yml:Currently, custom links in FUNDING.yml (e.g., custom: ["https://tip.md/tipdotmd"]) render as plain hyperlinks. Would it be possible to support Markdown or image-based styling for custom links, so they can appear as buttons like the tip.md badge above? This would enhance the visual appeal and usability of custom funding links, benefiting all developers using unique funding platforms.
These features would make it easier for open-source contributors to receive support in innovative ways, especially in the growing crypto space.
I’d love to hear the community’s thoughts and any feedback from the GitHub team on the feasibility of these ideas!
Thanks,
xR0am
