🚢 Ship-recap - What’s new in Copilot!

• Code faster and better with GitHub Copilot’s new features in Visual Studio

The latest Visual Studio Copilot Chat extension introduces two powerful features:

• Slash Commands: Utilize slash commands (/) in chat for targeted assistance, including documentation, code explanation, fixes, code generation, help, and code optimization. Commands like /doc, /explain, /fix, /generate, /help, and /optimize provide specific support.
• Context Variables: This new denoted by (#), allows you to reference files from your solution in questions. For instance, you can inquire about specific files using syntax like #file: Main.cs or #file: Calculator.cs , obtaining more tailored answers from Copilot Chat.

These features are compatible with Visual Studio 2022 version 17.8 and higher, enhancing code interaction and support.

• Now Deprecated - Copilot Chat API endpoints ♻️

As we announced in September, we updated the API service endpoints used by Copilot Chat. On February 1, 2024, we deprecated the Copilot Chat API endpoints currently being routed through https://copilot-proxy.githubusercontent.com/, Instead, these requests now go through https://api.githubcopilot.com/.

To ensure Copilot Chat continues working from February 1, 2024, please update to the most recent version of the Copilot extension and ensure your firewall and network settings allow communication to https://api.githubcopilot.com/.

• Now Re-deployed - Copilot Content Exclusions Feature 🧲

With Content Exclusion, GitHub Copilot Business customers can prevent specified files or repositories from being used to inform code completion suggestions made by GitHub Copilot. GitHub Copilot will not be available in excluded files. Organization administrators or repository owners can choose which files or repositories are excluded.
