question, mimir storage format

Hello, iam currently exploring grafana mimir open source as i want to send my eks production cluster metrics to mimir via prometheus agent only (i dont want to run entire prometheus stack/server on my prod cluster) and store it in aws s3 and visualize the data via grafana. So my question since the prometheus agent does not convert the scrapped data to TSDB and it directly remote writes the protobuf data to mimir, will mimir convert the recieved protobuf data to TSDB ? how can we query the data ?
