Quick Search - open in current tab?

Description

I have new tabs open Homepage and I can just start typing to bring up the quicksearch.

This opens in a new tab, but I want it to open in the current tab. How do I do this? I don't see any other references to _blank in my config...

If I use the search widget, I have this that will open in the same window instead of a new tab:

(in widgets.yaml):

- search:
    provider: google
    target: _self

The search target setting you mentioned only applies if its a search result (as opposed to one of your services etc

Thanks! I added this to my settings.yaml file (as per your second link) and it's still not working:

quicklaunch:
  target: _self
  provider: google # google, duckduckgo, bing, baidu, brave or custom

I restarted the app, tried in an incognito window, no joy.

I also changed the provider to duckduckgo so I could verify it was affecting the quicklaunch, and the search changed. It does not like _self...

It works on the provider, no problem.

Any ideas?

i have the same problem and when i add target: _self to a service it correctly translates to the quick search. only web search is not respecting the _self parameter from the search widget in widgets.yaml

That's testing:

• settings.yaml target: _self: opens in same window
• settings.yaml quicklaunch.target: _self: opens in same window
• settings.yaml without settings: opens in new window
• widgets.yaml search.target: _self: opens in same window
• widgets.yaml search without target setting: opens in new window

okay i tried it out and now it works for me too!
the key was to put a simple target: _self in the settings.yaml!
adding this didnt change any behaviour:

quicklaunch:
  target: _self

it is worth noting that this changes the target for all links on the site to _self if there isn't another target declared within the service or bookmark itself. (at least that is how i understand it)

Oh yea if it’s inside the quicklaunch block it needs to be part of the search provider definition. I can see how this stuff is confusing, it’s also kind of like this because we needed to support various legacy config

If I change the provider, it changes the provider on the quicklaunch so I know I'm in the right file, but it still does not open in the current window.

Editing to add - I've looked in my config and all I have is _self for targets, too:

You need to add a target: _self outside of the quicklaunch like this:

  target: _self
  provider: duckduckgo

target: _self
