Which frontend framework? Svelte, SolidJS or something else

Now DbGate is written in Svelte 3. Current Svelte version is 5, which makes Svelte 3 code obsolete. Almost everything is different. So migrating to Svelte 5 will take lot of time

SolidJS is much simpler library, also very effective as Svelte, without virtual DOM

Why Svelte?

• Less work migrating to Svelte 5 than migrating to SolidJS
• Declarative syntax, probably less coding than Solid/React
• Well tested for DbGate case, we know what to expect, no POC needed

Why SolidJS?

• Simpler build process, ability to use bundlers in compiled languages like esbuild
• No additional syntax, only JSX/TSX (which is today de facto part of standard JS)
• Better Typescript support

For Svelte:

• Migrating from 3-5 is not super difficult. It is much easier than it was to migrate React versions. Having performed a 4-5 migration I had no issues and it was done very quickly.
• Svelte 5 state management, especially across components has a much cleaner implementation in my opinion.
• You can have utility files that contain states/reactive parts by naming it .svelte.ts
• Native typescript-first support as of 5.
• Scoped CSS is incredibly useful if you need small fixes for a specific component that is not intended to be reused across other components (not everything can we done with the included tailwind classes and you may not want to extend tailwind for a single line fix)
• Vite is awesome.
• Vite is planning to integrate rolldown for super fast build times.
• Much larger community than SolidJS which is a niche within a niche.
• No JSX/TSX.
