Is it possible to start the streaming server?

If I want to start the streaming server from VLC then I can start it from VLC UI Media -> Stream. There are multiple different method is available with that e.g HTTP/UDP/RTP, so I tried to find reference to method in source code, but it seems there are no such methods available or may be I did not look hard enough.
