Is there an "official" way to set Desktop as the preferred mode?

I looked through the Jovian options and can't seem to find anything relating to setting Desktop Mode as the default Mode. Basically instead of it launching into Gaming Mode at boot, I want it to launch into Desktop Mode instead.

If there isn't, I think an option for this should totally be added.

In the meantime, I hacked together a solution for my system:

No, if your primary use case is desktop, maybe just use a normal DM? gamescope-session will work with that.

Your hacky workaround is likely the better option here for this. And with NixOS, the crime the workaround is well-documented and sign-posted. So it's not much of an issue IMO.

While we have carved out some new behaviour compared to Valve's defaults, we are trying to stay close to the semantics of SteamOS. Here, it means that your (presumed) gaming device will start by default on the gaming session (Steam).

Another option would be to not use the (somewhat limited by design opinionated) custom greeter, and figure out some other greeter arrangement that fits your needs.
