How to specify argon2 in config file & location?

An example command to start: copyparty -c copyparty.conf --ah-alg argon2

1. How would I specify --ah-alg argon2 in the config file`?
2. Is there a default location where copyparty looks for a config file?

Hi, for question 1, try adding ah-alg: argon2 in the [global] section of your config file. That works for me (I'm on Windows 10, no docker).

For question 2, no answer yet from me. I'm wondering that too...

i added ah-alg: argon2 to the config, but didn't see it enforce the password hashing. In fact, it appears to be using the hashes generated as plaintext itself?

After doing some digging I am seeing that it is hashing the passwords for users entered. So in my case, it is hashing a hash of a password. putting the plain text in the config confirms this, but i really dont want to do that (and have reverted the confirmation). I am definitely doing something wrong, any ideas?

On my terminal, it shows this whenever copyparty starts:

hashed password for account [username]:[hashed password]

please use the following hashed passwords in your config: [username]:[hashed password]

So unless you didn't see the above, your password should be hashed successfully within your system.

It shouldn't automatically change your plaintext passwords in your config. As said in the README: "if you have any plaintext passwords then it'll print the hashed versions on startup so you can replace them." Therefore, you're supposed to manually replace the plaintext password in your config with the hashed passwords you got from the terminal.

Weird! I had read it should do that, but I don't see any entries in journalctl -xeu copyparty.service on start up.

I had manually hashed them with python3 /usr/local/bin/copyparty-sfx.py --ah-alg argon2 --ah-cli and added them there initially before attempting the plaintext to confirm.
