RSS feed or newsletter for update/vulnerability announcements

Hi!

Would it be possible to get either an RSS feed or newsletter for receiving notifications about basically anything that would otherwise get a "@everyone" in the discord server? Discord is nice and all that but it would be nice if it's not the only option for receiving update notifications outside of github.

that's a good idea; can you think of any particular services which would be good for this? I don't think selfhosting is the right call for such an rss-feed, since I block a large number of ASNs from accessing my boxes, and I'd expect a lot of users would bump into those blocks.

Buttondown is the one I typically hear recommended (it's a newsletter service which also generates RSS feeds!) and I've only heard good things about it, but I've not had to personally use it myself. And it's a paid service, and not super cheap if suddenly thousands of people want updates. It's more built for people doing marketing than software update notifications.

Of course web hosting services could do a good job of serving up a single static RSS file, assuming you wanted to take the time to build the tooling to generate it. I'm sure there's plenty of downsides to that but at least it's cheap.

I have been informed that Github does in fact have built in RSS (Atom) feeds. Go figure.

While something completely off platform would be nice, this should work fine without a github account. And it's easy enough to build into your own tooling if you're that kind of person.

From the maintainer's side, it's literally 0 extra effort or cost. Doesn't get much better than that.
